It's been one of those days.

I've had a rough day today. August has been a very stressful month for me and I am beyond ready for September to begin. To get me through this Labor Day weekend I am dreaming of my go-to comforts:

All Things Gummy

The Return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte

Fall in all its Beauty

Quality Time with Steak

TGIF

TGIF: literally, thank goodness it's FRIDAY! This week has been a whirlwind for me and I'm so happy it's almost the weekend.

This weekend I'm looking forward to seeing my very pregnant hairdresser, Patti. She is the most wonderful woman you could ever meet! She is adorable, originally from Bolivia, has a beautiful daughter named Danielle and has been graciously styling my hair for the last 5 years!

Then I'm headed off to sister CJ's housewarming party. She just moved in with her two best friends, Mike and Emily, and couldn't be happier.

I'm also looking forward to a 7 mile run, a possible hike deep in VA, and a pilates reformer class at Thrive yoga.

I am thrilled to be meeting a new blogger friend, Two If By DC, and her husband at Spike's Good Stuff and We, The Pizza on Saturday night.

And then I'll be grabbing a cup of Joe with my dear friend, Amanda, on Sunday. Followed by some R&R, including DVR.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Eye of Round and Corn on the Cob

Steak made the most mouth-watering and delicious meal tonight. He broiled his farm-fresh eye of round steak with lots of Montreal and Chicago seasoning. He also grilled our corn on the cob from the farmers market and then dipped it in an olive-oil / balsamic vinegar mix and then into some romano cheese. Then he dusted the corn with red pepper flakes and our Tuscan Sunset spice mix from Penzeys. Delicious!

Working on my fitness

Now that Steak and I have settled in at home post travel-crazed summer, we have to get serious about our race training. Last spring after we finished our 10 mile race, we felt on top of the world and immediately signed up for a 1/2 marathon! Yes, every other day I ask myself, "what were we thinking?"

On October 2nd we will be participating in Walt Disney World's first annual Wine and Dine Half Marathon! It is a 10 p.m. race that takes us through Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot. We finish in Epcot's World Showcase where we will be treated to food and drinks from the various country pavilions.

Now that we're focusing on our fitness, I've been very conscious about what I'm eating. And I just signed up on myfitnesspal.com. It is an amazing website where you can track your calories and workouts without much effort. I can't recommend it enough! It takes all the guess work out of calorie counting.
Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! We're almost half way through the work week!

Nats vs. Cubs Game

Steak is a huge Cubs fan, so all month I had been hoping that my office wouldn't use one set of the Cubs tickets that were available this week. Thankfully, my wish came true and Steak and I headed to the game with little sis CJ and her roommate, Mike.

Screech heckled the Cubs players and fans.

Steak got a foul ball that Colvin on the Cubs hit into the stands.

For the first time in his life, the 6' tall Steak looks short in comparison to Mike. As for me and CJ, well we (me specifically) weren't blessed with height.

A Full Fridge

After months of traveling on the weekends and having dinner dates throughout the weeks, Steak and I came home to a barren refrigerator. We ordered Chinese take-out on Friday night, but after that we'd had enough of restaurant meals and fast-food. So this weekend we spent our time at the Courthouse Farmers market, Cosco and Whole Foods restocking our fridge for our first week at home.

We love the farmers market!

Oh and did I mention that Steak bought a 1/12 of a cow? Yea, he did! His co-worker's family has a farm and they were selling a cow in quarters. Steak and 2 of his co-workers purchased one of these quarters to share. Talk about buying local!

And of course what is a trip to the farmers market without some fresh flowers? But I have a confession: I think I like the plant I bought at Cosco more. I'll share pictures of my new love tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a very nice weekend!

My First Wedding

Ok, so I lied. It was actually my second wedding, but I was 3 or 4 years old passing out balloons at the first one. Also, this felt like a first because it was my first Jewish wedding. Most of my wedding memories come from movies and none of them included Jewish traditions, which, by the way, made the wedding way more fun!

Steak was particularly excited because they passed out Yarmulkes (I Googled the spelling... I think that's right). Steak has this running argument that he is actually Jewish, which isn't exactly the case. His grandfather is Jewish, but the rest of his family does not practice the religion. Despite all this, Steak felt right at home at the wedding.

The venue was beautiful. It was at a country club on a lake in Wisconsin. I love water.

The bride is a good friend of mine from college. We went through recruitment together in the same group. We ended up in different sororities, but came together again junior year to host recruitment as a part of Panhellenic. She was the VP of Recruitment and I was the Head Recruitment Counselor. After that we became very close and ended up having two classes together senior year, which turned into study dates, dinner get-togethers, Desperate Housewives watch parties, and a trip to the Inaugural Ball.

The wedding was even more fun, because my old roomie, Eri, was there to entertain me all night!

 My view at dinner.
 Toasting with Steak at dinner.
My selection of wine for the night.
 My delicious salmon.

After dinner we went to the reception and found the most amazing candy table. I was so full, but thankfully they provided little take-home boxes for all the candy my heart desired.

Eri found an even better use for it: gummy worms in champagne!

And here Eri and I are digging into the candy. Steak found it so funny that he had to take this picture.

Orlando Day 2: Part 2

After we left Islands of Adventure my family and I walked around Universal's City Walk. First stop: Margaritaville for some much needed margaritas.

It was so hot that sitting frequently was necessary. Here we are enjoying our shark-bitten chairs a little too much.

We walked by our old favorite spot.

And took some touristy photos.

Then we ventured into the original Universal theme park: Universal Studios.

My favorite spot is the faux-Hollywood street.

We went to the animal show and met Steak and my future companion.

We stayed until the park closed and then headed back to the hotel. We had to get some rest before the cruise the next day!
