Weekend Wrap-up

I had a fabulous weekend! My mom came into town on Thursday night and I spent the entire weekend with loved ones. Nothing is better than family, especially family who laughs together.

Above is a series of pictures of me and Sister CJ cracking up at brunch on Sunday. No one makes me laugh like my sister!

Foodie Friday

Last night we finally broke out Spike Mendelson's Good Stuff cookbook. We made Siraracha mayo, Good Stuff sauce, farmhouse burgers, and the famous marshmallow milkshake.

We made everything just the way Spike advised, except we cut corners on the french fries, which we purchased in the freezer aisle. We have a lot of kitchen appliances, but a deep fryer is not one of them. We did make our own ice cream, though, for the milkshakes!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

A Mani/Pedi for Charity

I was about to head to the nail salon on Monday night to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure, but after a weekend full of heartbreaking images on television and on the front page of our Sunday paper I didn't have the heart to go. Instead I decided to donate the money I would have spent at the nail salon to the Red Cross and treat myself to a DIY mani/pedi. My nails are a little rough around the edges but I've never felt better about a manicure. Now Steak and I are trying to think of other little indulgences we can sacrifice. Maybe you can join us!

Vacation Recap: Disney Day 2

On Tuesday, February 15th, Steak and I went to the Magic Kingdom! We took our time looking at parts of the park we never really visit: Adventureland and Liberty Square. We took a little boat to Tom Sawyer's island to explore, rode the newly refurbished Jungle Cruise, visited the Haunted Mansion, and saw Colonial Mickey and President Obama at the Hall of Presidents. Then we headed back to the resort to get a drink and relax.

After the drink at the bar in our resort we changed for dinner and then grabbed a bus to Hollywood Studios. We didn't enter the park but instead headed on the walking trail towards Disney's Boardwalk resort. We had big plans for night two. We were trying out my favorite Iron Chef's new restaurant, Kouzzina by Cat Cora. It's a Greek restaurant inspired by Cora's family recipes. The dinner was phenomenal. It was the best meal of my life.

After our DELICIOUS dinner we walked along the boardwalk and ran into a juggler. He ended up picking me out of the crowd and asked me to assist with his show. I had to throw objects at him that he would catch while juggling standing on a high, wobbly platform. It was a really fun moment!

After the show we grabbed a bus to Downtown Disney and did a bit of shopping before we got on a boat to head back to the resort.

Weekend Wrap-up

Steak and I had a wonderful weekend full of food. We made fajitas on Friday night and then went over to our friend L's apartment to make Japanese Curry on Saturday night. On Sunday two of my girlfriends came over and we made peanut butter oatmeal sandwich cookies and played video games with Steak.

When we stopped into Starbucks on Saturday for some iced coffee we were offered some delicious treats for free. Above is a picture of their new red velvet whoopie pie and their peanut butter chocolate mini cupcake. Both were delicious and a nice afternoon treat after a long day of walking around.

I'm very happy that the clocks sprung forward yesterday. I'm eagerly anticipating spring!

Foodie Friday

My girlfriends over at Leggings Are Not Pants always host a Foodie Friday. I thought I would join in the fun and post pictures of our fabulous dinner we made last Saturday night with Steak's co-worker +1. We recreated the dinner we made in this post and I think it was even better the second time around.

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

Fat Tuesday

Last night my girlfriend L and I went out for Fat Tuesday. We got jambalaya and king cake at Bayou Bakery (delicious!) and then ordered hurricanes at Liberty Tavern. We sat outside on Liberty Tavern's patio and watched the Mardi Gras parade go by. We even caught a few bead necklaces the performers threw into the crowd. It was pretty tame compared to New Orleans, I imagine, but I was still impressed by Arlington's enthusiasm for the holiday.

As a special treat I met Clarendon Nights and his cute girlfriend at Bayou Bakery! Check out his blog for pictures of the parade.
