Easter Sunday

Homemade peeps from Buzz Bakery.

Steak and I celebrated Easter Sunday with my sister and two of her friends. We attended a wonderful service at Grace Church in Georgetown and then headed to Papa Razzi for brunch. We walked home along the Georgetown waterfront and saw some of the damage the flood caused to our favorite restaurants. Sister CJ hosted us for candy and Easter egg hunts following brunch. Her and her roommate, M, were the clear winners of the hunts, but I believe it's because they know their way around the apartment.

Date Night in Clarendon

The weather finally cooperated and after a stormy Friday we were blessed with a beautiful, warm Saturday evening. Steak and I took full advantage and headed out to Clarendon for a date night. We started out at our favorite spot, Restaurant 3, but then decided to look for outdoor seating elsewhere. We were fortunate enough to stumble upon the rooftop bar at Whitlow's on Wilson that felt like an island escape in our concrete jungle.

Cool Kid

I finally became a member of the cool-kid club and got an iPhone. Three cheers for music, books, email, photos and calls all on one device. My purse will be 10 lbs lighter tomorrow.

Happy Friday!

Vacation Recap: Disney Day 3

In February Steak and Legs took a week long tropical vacation. We traveled to Jacksonville, FL to run a half marathon with Legs' extended family, to Orlando, FL to visit Walt Disney World, and then boarded the Disney Dream cruise ship and traveled to Nassau, Bahamas and Castaway Cay. What follows is a picture diary of our trip.

I've neglected to post the rest of our vacation pictures from our trip to Florida in February. So far I've recapped my extended family's reunion in Jacksonville on Friday, February 11th and Saturday, February 12th, our half marathon victory on Sunday, February 13th and our first two days in Disney World on Monday, February 14th and Tuesday, February 15th.

On Wednesday, February 16th, Steak and I woke up in beautiful Walt Disney World Resort for our last full day of fun. We started the morning with a quick run from our resort, Port Orleans - Riverside, to its sister resort, Port Orleans - French Quarter

After our leisurely jog we got dressed and headed on the Disney bus to Disney Hollywood's Studio. I immediately took Steak over to see Lights, Motors, Action because he had never seen it before and I knew he would love it! We grabbed some lunch at ABC Commissary, rode on the Studio Backlot Tour and Toy Story Mania and then headed on the bus to Animal Kingdom.

In Animal Kingdom we went on my favorite ride, Dinosaur, and then played some carnival games. Steak won me a basketball teddy bear shooting hoops and I won a little sea turtle at the mammoth derby racing.

After the carnival games Steak rode Expedition Everest alone, because I'm too much of a chicken! Then we grabbed a bite to eat at the Yak and Yeti quick service station.

I had the sweet and sour chicken. Steak had the honey chicken. While both were very good (surprisingly good for fast food standards) my sweet and sour chicken was definitely better.

By this point in the night it looked like the weather was taking a turn for the worst, so we hightailed out of the park and headed back to our resort. When the bus stopped at our sister resort, French Quarter, first, we decided to get off and explore its lobby and gift shop and walk along the river back to our resort. After a quick tour of the grounds we retreated to our room to watch the Wednesday ABC comedies and head to bed.

West Wing Tour

Steak and I had the opportunity to tour the West Wing of the White House this weekend. A Federal Air Marshall led the tour on Sunday afternoon. We saw the Oval Office, Roosevelt Room, the Rose Garden, the Situation Room, and the Navy Mess Hall where everyone dines. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, a perfect day for a historical tour.

A Friday Cocktail Indulgence

A few weeks ago Steak and I made Elizabeth Taylor cocktails in honor of the fallen star. The champagne/violet blend was quite tasty and sophisticated and like nothing we've ever tried before. I look forward to making this cocktail again in the near future. Since the creme de violette was so difficult to acquire (my mom was kind enough to ship it from Illinois) it now seems like a decadent treat after a long week at work. Cheers!

BFF, M, me, and E before semi-formal sophomore year.

Freshman year of college I met three amazing women. We were all freshmen and we were all pledging the same sorority. We met by chance, one by one, but soon we became best of friends. Sophomore year we all lived together and learned more about each other than we had bargained. After drifting apart junior year when BFF went abroad, we were determined to keep our friendship alive senior year.

Last night, after almost two years of separation, we finally reunited! M flew in from Miami to break bread with us at Ceiba. I couldn't be more pleased that our friendship has lasted the test of time (and distance).
