DC Earthquake

This afternoon I was at my office when the floors and walls started to vibrate. My co-worker and I thought someone was walking heavily, but then the place really started to shake. For a moment we froze, not quite sure what to do. I suggested we get under my desk, but by that time the evacuation alarm went off and we scrambled to collect our belongs and head for the stairwell. We work right by the Capitol so it was no surprise when a number of people in the stairwell loudly speculated that a bomb had probably just exploded nearby. Needless to say those first few minutes were some of the scariest of my entire life.

I was supremely relieved to step outside and find our beloved city in one piece. After speaking with a few individuals with cell service (most of us had none) we determined that we had just experienced an earthquake. Steak and Sister CJ went back to work as normal, but our building was shutdown by officials and we were told to go home. This became a problem when I learned that the metros were shutdown. I ended up walking 6 miles to get home and I have never been more thankful that I negotiated with Steak to live a little closer to DC than he would have liked.

Steak treated me to a Boylan soda at Bayou Bakery and once he was done working we went out to Cava for dinner. Arlington is completely back to normal: joggers, fro-yo connoisseurs and families walking with strollers and puppies were all out in force tonight. I, however, still can't quite get over our minor natural disaster. It was a surreal day.

Five miles into my trek home crossing the Key Bridge into Virginia. Trying to capture the sheer number of people also fleeing the city, but you can only see a few.
At Bayou Bakery feeling like I had just run a half marathon. Guess I'm a bit out of shape.
Everyone's making the earthquake work for them. Here's a sign outside of our local gym. Wonder what the deal was.

Jazz in the Garden

On Friday night, Steak and I met my BFF and her boyfriend at the Sculpture Garden in DC. We enjoyed a picnic of cheese, olives and hummus while we caught up, listened to the jazz music and got eaten by bugs!
