Tech Tuesday: New keyboard

So I started getting even more geeky... I just purchased my first mechanical keyboard! It's a Filco Majestouch 2, with Cherry MX Brown switches. It feels so good to type on. It's hard to explain really.

Also, this entire post was done from my phone with a little reformatting on my computer, so I apologize if it comes out as a little poorer quality.

Let the Games Begin!

Today is the Battlefield 3 release day! If you are reading this, the game is already released for players with digital copies. If you, like me, opted for a physical disk (to be delivered while I'm at work) then I'll see you online tonight!

I fully expect this game to have a tremendous impact on my productivity.

Disney's Halloween Family 5K

The reason we went to Disney earlier this month was to participate in a Halloween 5K. We woke up at 5am on Saturday, October 1st (I as a newly engaged lady) and headed to the Animal Kingdom.

I had purchased a Team Sparkle skirt to complete my Minnie Mouse costume.

The whole family! Less than 24 hours in the making.

The future in-laws dressed as pirates.

Saved a little wand from the Disney Dream and ran all 3 miles with it.

Minnie and Goofy.

My little family in the pumpkin t-shirts we got for the race.

Sister CJ was NOT excited for the race.

Steak and I started racing as a couple, so it was only fitting to complete a race less than 24 hours after Steak proposed!

My soon-to-be family!

Our mini family. Only missing a pug.

What better way to start a Saturday than wearing ears running through Animal Kingdom?! I HIGHLY recommend participating in a Run Disney event if you like to run or are the least bit interested in running.

THE Engagement

Pre-engagement faces landed safely in Orlando.

The last two weeks have been absolutely surreal. Even though we've been dating for 4 years I was not expecting Steak's proposal. It is safe to say that although surprised, I am thrilled that Steak asked me to be his wife!

Friday, September 30th, we departed DC early in the morning and flew to Orlando, FL to run a 5k in Disney World with my parents, Steak's parents, and Sister CJ. When we arrived in Disney World Steak's parents were already there, but my family was arriving later in the day.

We checked into our resort (we were staying at Disney's Old Key West Resort with my parents and sister) and then headed over to Epcot to meet Steak's parents for lunch. Epcot was hosting their annual Food & Wine Festival and we were very much looking forward to some good eats.

Reliving last year's race when arriving at Epcot.

We made a detour at the Festival Center before meeting Steak's parents in World Showcase. We wanted to surprise them with Food & Wine gift cards to thank them for hosting us in San Diego over Labor Day weekend. Steak started to get nervous and I thought he was upset with me for taking too long at the Festival Center. I thought he was just anxious to meet up with his parents.

Ran into Keegan Gerhard at the Festival Welcome Center.

The Festival Center is located in Future World of Epcot and we were meeting Steak's parents at the Food & Wine festival located in the World Showcase portion of Epcot. To get to World Showcase you have to cross a beautiful bridge. When we were half-way across Steak said, "Let's stop right here for a minute." He pulled us under a tree in the shade. I just figured he wanted to cool off for a moment. It was hot that day!

Once in the shade Steak started discussing how much fun we had running the 1/2 marathon last year and how fun it will be to spend the weekend with our parents. And before I knew it he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand! Utter shock!

We spent the rest of the day celebrating with Steak's parents (French champagne and escargot were involved) and my parents and sister (this time with Chianti and cannoli). I couldn't have imagined a more perfect day!

Our Latest Engagement

The past 4 years that Legs and I have been together have been so amazing. We've done so much and had a lot of fun. I was really excited for this trip to Disney for more than just the Magic Kingdom. Last Friday (September 30th) I asked Legs to marry me! And what do you know?! She said yes!

Right after the big question

The two of us couldn't be happier and are excited to be planning a DC wedding!

The Tech World Shaken

With so much happening in the Tech World late this year, the one thing that stands out above all is not what I was expecting.

Steve Jobs' contributions to the world are far reaching. Him and Steve Wozniak together were the people responsible with bringing computers into the every day households. What Steve did for PC's with the original Apple Computer he would do again in 2001 for MP3 players with the iPod... and again in 2007 for smartphones with the iPhone, re-revolutionized with the App Store in 2008, and he would even do it again with tablet computers in 2010 with the iPad.

Steve did not invent these products, but his design and marketing brought them to consumers in a big way and his influence will remain long lasting.

One more thing...

Did you know Steve Jobs played a big role in Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E and Up? In 1986, Steve Jobs acquired Pixar (then Graphics Group) and was a key person in rescuing the company from going under with gutsy moves like selling off their hardware division and partnering (and playing hardball with) Disney.

Each of us can learn from Steve's example. Few people have the creativity, drive and passion to change the world.

Rest in Peace Steve Jobs.
